The "caste war" that took place in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico from 1847 to 1901 is justifiably considered to be the most successful Native American rebellion against European influence and domination to take place in the recorded history of the New World. It was the attempt by the Mayan people to eradicate foreign domination and revitalize their ancient culture.
